SUMMARY:Weekend outing to Korbach and the Edersee reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Fourteen years ago\, Pickwicks visited the Edersee reservoir and its surroundings. Now\, we are planning a slightly different weekend trip to the area in September. \nKorbach is a quaint little town about two hours north of Frankfurt with many half-timbered houses in its historic centre and a well-preserved city wall. Nearby attractions include a visitor gold mine and the “Korbacher Spalte\,” a 20-metre-deep cleft in the Earth’s surface which has yielded important fossil finds. \nKorbach is about 45 minutes from the Edersee dam\, so we plan to visit Korbach on the first day of the trip and then explore some of the Edersee attractions on the way back to Frankfurt on Sunday. \nAs of now\, the plan comprises: \nDay 1\n\nTravel to Korbach by car pool and arrive around noon\nGuided tour: “Within the Town Walls”\nUnderground tour of the visitor gold mine\nDinner.\n\nDay 2\nAfter breakfast\, explore some of the Edersee attractions: \n\nReservoir dam visitor centre\nEdersee (2-hour boat trip)\nVisit the “Atlantis” sunken villages\, which reappear at low water levels\nReturn to Frankfurt.\n\nThis is an outline itinerary which will have to be adapted according to weather conditions\, the Edersee’s water level in September\, and the interests of the participants. \nSome people have already booked rooms at the Hotel Am Dalwigker Tor.
