SUMMARY:Weekend outing to Korbach and the Edersee reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Fourteen years ago\, Pickwicks visited the Edersee reservoir and its surroundings. Now\, we are planning a slightly different weekend trip to the area in September. \nKorbach is a quaint little town about two hours north of Frankfurt with many half-timbered houses in its historic centre and a well-preserved city wall. Nearby attractions include a visitor gold mine and the “Korbacher Spalte\,” a 20-metre-deep cleft in the Earth’s surface which has yielded important fossil finds. \nKorbach is about 45 minutes from the Edersee dam\, so we plan to visit Korbach on the first day of the trip and then explore some of the Edersee attractions on the way back to Frankfurt on Sunday. \nAs of now\, the plan comprises: \nDay 1\n\nTravel to Korbach by car pool and arrive around noon\nGuided tour: “Within the Town Walls”\nUnderground tour of the visitor gold mine\nDinner.\n\nDay 2\nAfter breakfast\, explore some of the Edersee attractions: \n\nReservoir dam visitor centre\nEdersee (2-hour boat trip)\nVisit the “Atlantis” sunken villages\, which reappear at low water levels\nReturn to Frankfurt.\n\nThis is an outline itinerary which will have to be adapted according to weather conditions\, the Edersee’s water level in September\, and the interests of the participants. \nSome people have already booked rooms at the Hotel Am Dalwigker Tor. SUMMARY:Relaxing summer walk along the Mühlenwanderweg in Mühlheim
DESCRIPTION:Pickwicks leaves its comfort zone for a hike into unknown territory… \nThis summer hike\, led by René Hartmann\, follows part of the Mühlenwanderweg\, connecting the sites of numerous past and present mills in the town of Mühlheim\, which is situated between Offenbach and Hanau. Starting at Mühlheim station\, the route follows the Rodau and Bieber rivers to the Käsmühle restaurant\, where we will stop for lunch. Afterwards\, we will return to Mühlheim via a different route. \nThe total length of the hike is approximately 11 km on completely flat terrain\, making it suitable for inexperienced walkers. However\, since it will be late June\, please remember to apply sunscreen and bring an adequate supply of water! \nDue to railworks in the Offenbach S-Bahn tunnel\, there are no direct trains from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof or the town centre. The best alternative is the S8 from Frankfurt Südbahnhof\, which can be reached using the S1\, S3–S6\, U1–U3 and U8\, as well as various tram and bus lines. \nMeeting point 1:\n\nFrankfurt Südbahnhof\n10:45\nPlatform 8\nto catch the 10:51 S8 towards Hanau Hauptbahnhof\n(arriving in Mühlheim at 11:09).\n\nMeeting point 2:\n\nOutside Mühlheim station\n(Google Maps link)\n11:10\n\nFor our return journey to Frankfurt Süd\, we plan to take the 14:53 S8 from Mühlheim\, which runs every 30 minutes. \nIf you would like to join us for this walk\, please click the “Sign up” button below and indicate which meeting point you would like to join us at.

DESCRIPTION:Same procedure as every year:\nThe Pickwicks go on a New Year’s hike from Bad Soden to the Rote Mühle and back. \nThe route is fairly easy\, with just a few ups and downs\, and is just over 12 km long. SUMMARY:Taunus hike to the new Hardtbergturm
DESCRIPTION:After a long break\, Pickwicks is back in the Taunus for another adventure! \nThe walk will take us from Kronberg station to the Hardtbergturm. As a reward for climbing to the top of the hill\, this futuristic new structure offers a beautiful view of the area from its 27 metre high platform. After the descent\, the next reward is lunch at La Fattoria in Kronthal. From here it’s an easy 30-minute walk back to Kronberg. \nThe details:\nMeeting point 1:\n\nFrankfurt Hauptbahnhof\nPlatform 104 (underground)\n09:50\, to catch the S4 at 09:59\n\n(As everyone seems to have a pensioner’s ticket or DeutschlandTicket these days\, we won’t bother with group tickets any more; please get your own ticket to Kronberg). \nMeeting point 2:\n\nKronberg station\n10:20\n\nTrains from Kronberg back to Frankfurt run every 30 minutes; we will try to catch the S-Bahn at 16:08. \nThe total walking time is 3 hours\, with some moderate ups and downs.
