SUMMARY:Special exhibition at the Film Museum
DESCRIPTION:As in previous years\, Pickwicks will visit the Film Museum’s current special exhibition: \nLong Takes. One Shots. No Cuts.\nThe exhibition explores the evolution of camera movement and tracking shots in film\, investigating various aspects of camerawork. It illustrates the progression from early attempts to ‘unleash the camera’ from its fixed tripod position to the development of increasingly sophisticated mechanical camera rigs and\, finally\, the latest computer-assisted shooting and editing techniques that make anything possible. The exhibition also showcases famous ‘long shots’ that skilfully avoid manipulating the audience’s attention through editing; instead\, they let the camera track the action or – more rarely – minimise it altogether\, allowing viewers to decide what to focus on. The pinnacle of the long shot is the ‘one shot’: a film that is shot (or at least pretends to be shot) in a single take without any editing\, which obviously requires extremely comprehensive and meticulous preparation. \nPickwicks has booked a guided tour of this fascinating exhibition in English.
