SUMMARY:Special exhibition at the Film Museum
DESCRIPTION:As in previous years\, Pickwicks will visit the Film Museum’s current special exhibition: \nLong Takes. One Shots. No Cuts.\nThe exhibition explores the evolution of camera movement and tracking shots in film\, investigating various aspects of camerawork. It illustrates the progression from early attempts to ‘unleash the camera’ from its fixed tripod position to the development of increasingly sophisticated mechanical camera rigs and\, finally\, the latest computer-assisted shooting and editing techniques that make anything possible. The exhibition also showcases famous ‘long shots’ that skilfully avoid manipulating the audience’s attention through editing; instead\, they let the camera track the action or – more rarely – minimise it altogether\, allowing viewers to decide what to focus on. The pinnacle of the long shot is the ‘one shot’: a film that is shot (or at least pretends to be shot) in a single take without any editing\, which obviously requires extremely comprehensive and meticulous preparation. \nPickwicks has booked a guided tour of this fascinating exhibition in English. SUMMARY:A visit to the Philipp-Reis-Museum in Friedrichsdorf
DESCRIPTION:Dear Pickwicks\, \nAs mentioned\, I’m offering you now a more reliable event: a visit to the Philipp-Reis-Museum in Friedrichsdorf\, completed with a meal in a cafeteria nearby. \nPhilipp Reis is a very important personality of German and international culture. He died quite young \, lived 1834–1874 and was a self-taught German scientist and inventor. In 1861\, he constructed the first telephone \, today called the Reis Telephone. It was the first device to transmit a voice via electronic signals and for that the first modern telephone. \nI’ve booked a visit to the house he was born in\, which is in Friedrichsdorf\, and we’ll get a guided tour of it on April 6th at 13:00. There we’ll learn more about his life and his commitment\, his inventions and his merits for the new technics and humanity. \nAfter the tour\, which takes some 1.5 hours\, we’ll pop in a cafeteria nearby and enjoy a nice snack there. \nS5 brings us directly to Friedrichsdorf\, so we’ll meet up at Frankfurt Main station at 11:45\, downstairs\, on the platform direction Friedrichsdorf. \nThe visit costs €35 for our group and is limited to 15 people\, as the house isn’t very large. DESCRIPTION:Dear Pickwicks\, \nThat’s something really interesting and appealing\, what I’m offering you now – Kronberg! \nIt’s a city-tour of Kronberg wich will take place in the night of November 17th (Sunday)\, starting at 18:00\, the guides wearing Middle-Age costumes and lanterns fitting to their costumes. \nKronberg is in itself a city of tales. \nIt’s a jewel of Taunus! Its old houses\, its castle\, its  mountains and nature and the whole atmosphere draws you to the glorious antique times of the city. Times which one can feel by all occasions while being there. \nWe’ll meet up at the S4 terminus in Kronberg at 17:30. \nThe price for the tour is €7.00.
