SUMMARY:50 years of Pickwicks: All aboard!
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Pickwicks 50th Anniversary Celebrations\, on Saturday 13 June we will go on a short boat trip (roughly 100 minutes) at 4 p.m. from the Eiserner Steg in Frankfurt. It takes in the ‘Mainhattan’ skyline and a number of notable Frankfurt landmarks visible from the river. Refreshments will be provided specially for us\, the cost of which will be borne by Pickwicks. \nThe trip itself costs €19.50.  If you wish to take part in the boat trip\, please use the ‘Sign up’ button below and pay your €19.50 by Saturday 23 May at the latest.  Payment can be in cash to the Treasurer on a Wednesday evening or by bank transfer to the Pickwicks account at Commerzbank: \nPickwicks English Club\nIBAN DE98 5004 0000 0582 1046 00\n‘Pickwicks boat trip’ \nWe are expecting this to be a popular event\, so please book early to avoid disappointment! SUMMARY:50 Years: Anniversary Brunch
DESCRIPTION:As another major event of our weekend of celebrations\, we will be meeting for brunch at the Depot 1899\, Textorstraße 33\, in 60594 Frankfurt. This is easily reached by tram or underground train to Südbahnhof. There is a multi-storey car park nearby for those driving to the venue. \nWe will meet from 10.30 onwards (but not too late after that time!)\, in the large room at the rear of the building. The ample brunch\, consisting of both hot and cold food\, costs €24.90 per person. All drinks are extra. This will also be a good opportunity to move around and catch up with old acquaintances. \nNo payment is required in advance for this event\, but we do ask for absolutely firm commitments when you sign up (using the ‘Sign up’ button below). \nAfter this official event ends\, enthusiasts of apple wine and historic streetcars are welcome to hop on the Ebbelwei-Express\, which stops at Südbahnhof at 14:08.

SUMMARY:Autumn weekend in the Sauerland
DESCRIPTION:When our short trip to Korbach last year turned out to be quite pleasant\, the small number of participants decided it would be worthwhile repeating the experience. \nSo\, this year\, we are going to try something similar and spend a weekend in Sauerland. It will take place from 23rd to 25th October\, and Bob and Kerstin will be organising it. \nMore specifically\, we are targeting the area between Willingen (Upland) and Brilon. \nThere are a number of points of interest nearby in Willingen: \n\nHochheideturm (a tall viewing tower)\nMühlenkopfschanze (the world’s largest hill ski jump)\nSkywalk (the world’s third longest pedestrian suspension bridge)\n\nFurther afield\, moving from Hessen into North Rhine-Westphalia\, there are \n\nDiemelsee reservoir\nBrilon\, with its historic old town\nand more.\n\nThere is probably more than enough here for one weekend outing\, so the actual itinerary and choice of entertainment is still pending. \nThe general outline is: \nFriday\, 23 October\n\nTravel to Willingen or Usseln by train or car pool\nExplore Willingen a little\nDinner\n\nSaturday\, 24 October\n\nGuided tour of the Mühlenkopfschanze\nCrossing the Skywalk footbridge (if you dare)\nClimbing the Hochheideturm (by lift or stairs)\nShort and easy walk through the beautiful landscape\n\nSunday\, 25 October\n\nRoad trip to Brilon\nVisit to the historic old town\nTravel back to Frankfurt\, possibly stopping at a nice place such as Wetzlar or Marburg on the way.\n\nWe will be staying in Usseln because it is slightly cheaper than Willingen.
